Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin is the unified medical schools of the Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. Having an almost 300-year history Charité is today the largest school of medicine and university hospital system in Europe.
The size and diversity of the new Charité with its nearly 15,000 employees requires a modern organization and structure. Since 2003, the Charité has been headed by a full-time board of directors. In 2005 17 centers were formed from the 128 medical departments an institutes. These "Charité Centers" are organized according to patient pathways as well as research and education needs. In this way Charité is pursuing its mission: “Excellence in Education,
Research, Healing and Helping”.
